Breaking news from the Mashable blog: Facebook and Myspace, traditional rivals, are set to make an exceptional joint announcement today at 8:00pm GMT.

For those invited the announcement will be accessible via a live webcast.
Although it is unclear as of the nature of the announcement, academic guesses by Mashable suggest it may be in relation to to “MySpace using the Facebook Platform or Facebook Connect.”
MySpace recently underwent a repositioning of the product that ensured the company was no longer in direct competition with Facebook, situating the brand further into the entrainment industry and away from Facebook.
The repositioning of MySpace means that the company is now focusing their efforts on content, as opposed to Facebook, who’s content is provided by its users. Subsequently, Facebook Connect or platform integration would provide MySpace with an ideal way to maximise distribution.
