Doug Richard – the American entrepreneur of Dragons’ Den fame – gave a digital masterclass last month at MADE: The Entrepreneur Festival where he focused on quick digital solutions for small businesses that are strapped for cash or time.
The Californian highlighted the importance of having an effective and meaningful identity online and, in particular, maintaining a quality facebook presence – something Sports New Media prides itself in.
“Every business’s online presence needs to be part of the answer pertaining to their sector. In order to do that, a business cannot be invisible,” he said.
“Business owners need to put themselves in the mind of a consumer when they go and perform a search and make sure they are visible on every platform when the results pop up.”
Richard went on to explain that too many businesses and brands fret about having a presence across social media, but don’t actually understand the strategy of how to get the best out of the likes of facebook and Twitter.
Efficiency is the key – says Richard – as small businesses do not have the money, resources or time to ensure that someone is monitoring their social media presence at all times. But, as Sports New Media has demonstrated, having the right strategy and know how for social media enables rapid fan base growth.
