  • Sports New Media have reason to celebrate after one of their Fan pages, that of Fernando Torres, passed the one million fan mark.

The Liverpool and Spain striker has had a frustrating season with injury on the pitch, but that hasn’t stopped facebook users from showing their support on his page.

The company has been providing news and video features to the fans of ‘El Nino’ since it began monitoring the page for the player, and the use of advertisement has also served as a positive rather than a negative. The page continues to go from strength-to-strength in terms of fan numbers, a testament to the services being provided.

Other notable increased on the fan pages include Steven Gerrard, whose fan base has passed the 500,000 mark, while Wayne Rooney isn’t far behind with 425,000 fans.

All player pages continue to show signs of growth, some more rapidly than others, and Sports New Media hope that success for some of the key nations in the World Cup will provide an additional boost to the relevant players from each participating country.

This ‘patriotic growth’, mixed with the provision of a quality service during the tournament in South Africa, will help Sports New Media increase their fan base and global reach even further, strengthening the company’s position on the social networking site.

The whole facebook project continues to show signs of growth, with the most recent count placing fan numbers at over 4.8 million. This figure comes from the number of fans spread across the top 300 individual player pages.
