  • In the continuing pursuit of offering fans the best service possible on facebook, every professional player in England has been given the chance to get involved on their own individual facebook fan page.

Sports New Media sent the call to players in the top four flights of English football (Premier League to League Two) via the PFA’s ‘Players’ Club’, a magazine produced every quarter and distributed directly to football clubs.

Several high-profile players have already got involved with their own page, with Darren Bent, Glen Johnson and Nicolas Anelka just three people providing individual content.

With a continuing aim of protecting the players, as well as providing news, videos and features to fans, Sports New Media have worked hard to create a solid base from which players can interact with their fans.

To date, the company has built a fan base close to 11 million people. This number is rising on a daily basis, with current growth in the region of 56,000 a day.

This growth is spread across over 600 pages, with the creation of a fan page for every player set for the near future. Once complete, the 2,500 pages will give Sports New Media one of the largest bases of both players and fans in the World.

Increased involvement from players at all levels would serve as a major boost for both the fan pages themselves and Sports New Media, emphasising the great work currently taking place on facebook.

“We have always been keen for players to get involved, and have offered such a service from the very beginning,” notes Sports New Media managing director Jae Chalfin.

After further investment in moderation and management tools, we’re in a position to inform every player of the company’s work on facebook and cope with the demand should every player want to work with us.”

CEO Nick Thain expanded on the value of professional footballers providing content for their own fans.

We provide a professional, moderated and managed service for every player from every club,  It’s been successful in the past with players who have got involved, and we’re more than confident that it will be successful in the future.”
